As sisters of Theta Phi Alpha we are responsible to care for those who are less fortunate than ourselves. It is a part of our mission to advance philanthropic interests, and we do so by volunteering our services to the community, raising funds to support local and national philanthropic activities, and participating in community service. Below is an overview of just some of the philanthropies that our chapter of Theta Phi Alpha actively supports.

Philanthropy

The House That Theta Phi Alpha Built
This is one of our National philanthropies. The common goal through The House that Theta Phi Alpha Built is to improve the plight of the homeless in any way. Our chapter seeks to provide assistance to organizations that help the homeless, shelters, home building or neighborhood revitalization projects. Each semester sisters from our chapter volunteer and serve food at Opportunity House in Reading.

Glenmary Home Missioners
This is one of our National philanthropies. Glenmary Home Missioners works in depressed rural areas of the United States, primarily in the Appalachian Mountains. They distribute food, clothing, and books to needy persons, as well as assist in providing medical care, job training and tutoring. Each year we raise money to help these efforts.

Camp Friendship
Camp Friendship is a two-week summer camp hosted in northeast Mississippi for children from disadvantaged and low-income homes. Children develop teamwork skills, foster new relationships, and promote a sense of self-worth that grows from their personal accomplishments. Sisters of Theta Phi Alpha assist Camp Friendship with financial donations, supplies and as volunteers at the camp.

CAUSES CLOSE TO OUR HEARTS
While we do fundraise for our National philanthropies each year, we also like to fundraise for charities that our sisters have personal connections to, or feel strongly about. If a sister has a charity she'd like to fundraise for, we will come up with an event to make it happen!

Helping the Local Community
As a part of the Kutztown community, the sisters of Theta Phi Alpha participate in events that benefit our local community. Some events include Adopt-A-Block, the Kutztown Block Party, and Kutztown's Trick-or-Treat night. Over the past few years we have also raised money for the Berks Humane Society during each semester.
